Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts Now at 1506 Haight Street

San Francisco Heritage is excited to be hosting the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA) at our pop-up gallery at 1506 Haight Street in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15, 2022), as well as a special window display and celebration of Dia de los Muertos on November 1.

The organization celebrated its 45th anniversary in August, and San Francisco’s board of supervisors earlier this year voted unanimously to grant landmark status to MCCLA’s longtime building at 2868 Mission Street for its role as a beacon for art, theater, dance, music, and culture in the Mission District community (it is also listed in the National Register for Historic Places). MCCLA is led by new Executive Director Dr. Martina Ayala, a recognized educator, community leader, and curator.

MCCLA is in the midst of searching for a temporary location ahead of a major retrofit construction project for their Mission District building next year. This pop-up at SF Heritage's Doolan-Larson Building provides an opportunity for MCCLA to bring their programs to new audiences as they prepare for this process.

Be sure to stop by the gallery every Thursday-Sunday from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM to learn more about the history of the MCCLA and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. Some activities in the space includes conducting podcast interviews with local artists and activists, providing screen-printing demonstrations, and selling locally-made goods, prints, and original art. MCCLA will also partner with the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District throughout their time in the Haight.
